About Arlington, MA - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!

Arlington, Massachusetts was settled in 1635 as a village named Menotomy, an Algonquian Indian word than means “swift running water”. The town incorporated in 1807 as West Cambridge, but changed its name in 1867 to honor the Civil War soldiers buried in Arlington National Cemetery. In 1775 the Battle of Menotomy took place when local minutemen gathered to ambush the British troops retreating from the Battles of Concord and Lexington, and more blood was actually shed in this engagement than in both of those battles combined. Menotomy resident Samuel Wilson, who later founded a meat-packing plant in Troy, New York, was said to be the original Uncle Sam, and a statue of this most famous native son was raised in the town center not far from his birthplace during the town's 1976 Bicentennial celebration.

Arlington weather is typical for New England, meaning winters are long and cold, while summers are warm and pleasant. The town hosts a number of outdoor events during the milder months, including the Arlington Greek Festival sponsored by the Saint Athanasius the Great Greek Orthodox Church in spring, an early summer Strawberry Festival put on by the Arlington Philharmonic Society and the town-wide Arlington Alive Summer Arts Block Party. In autumn, when temperatures start to cool down, the Arlington International Film Festival offers indoor entertainment.
